What time does Lagoon Valley Park close tonight? The City of Vacaville doesn't post a fixed hour. Its park rules set hours of use from half an hour after sunrise to half an hour after sunset. That means the gate time on the 306-acre park at 100 Peña Adobe Road changes a little every day. In fall it moves earlier.
The amount isn't the surprise. The timing is. Most of the evening park time you lose this year disappears in a short stretch between mid-October and the first weekend of November. After that the closing time barely moves.
The cutoff, date by date
Sunset times for Vacaville come from timeanddate.com's 2026 tables. The closing times below add the city's half hour to each sunset.
| Date in 2026 | Vacaville sunset | Park closes around |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday, Oct. 15 | 6:29 p.m. | 6:59 p.m. |
| Sunday, Nov. 1 | 5:08 p.m. | 5:38 p.m. |
| Sunday, Nov. 15 | 4:55 p.m. | 5:25 p.m. |
| Tuesday, Dec. 15 | 4:48 p.m. | 5:18 p.m. |
From Oct. 15 to Nov. 1, sunset moves 81 minutes earlier in 17 days. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Nov. 1, so an hour of that drop comes from the clock change and the other 21 minutes from shorter days. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 15, sunset moves only 20 minutes over 44 days.
So the park you get on a weekday evening in mid-December is close to the one you'll have on the first Monday of November. If you leave work at 5 p.m. and drive to the Peña Adobe exit, you have a short window after Nov. 1 and almost none by December. The real change happens during the second half of October.
What still fits inside the October window
The fall events left on the park's calendar mostly happen before the clocks change. They also fall on weekends, when the closing time matters less than it will on a Tuesday in November.
Disc golf. The PDGA lists the Lagoon Valley 2026 Fall Sanctioned League, a Pro/Am league run by director Holden Hix and assistant director James Pavlichek, on Sundays from Sept. 13 through Oct. 18. UDisc's course page shows two league dates left, Oct. 11 and Oct. 18. It also lists "October tags," a monthly bag-tag event run by Lagoon Valley DGC, on Oct. 17. Neither listing gives start times or fees, so check the event pages before you go.
The course itself is counted differently depending on the source. The city and the PDGA course directory describe a 27-hole course, with a front nine along the lake and a longer, wooded back 18 with elevation changes. UDisc lists two separate 18-hole layouts. It calls the lakeside Lagoon course mostly flat and open, and the Valley back course more wooded and hilly. Either way, the back holes take longer to play, and they're the ones the earlier cutoff will squeeze.
A walk with the master plan's developer. On Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to noon, Lagoon Valley developer Curt Johansen is scheduled to lead a free walk called "Walk Lagoon Valley With Its Visionary." It starts at 200 Mount Royal Road and covers the master plan and its approach to wildfire and flood mitigation. The disc golf bag-tag event is the same day, so Oct. 17 is the busiest Saturday left on this fall's calendar.
Mountain biking. The Vacaville Dirt Dogs calendar lists a parent info meeting at Lagoon Valley Park on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. That's one of the last regular evening gatherings you could hold at the park before Nov. 1 moves closing time to around 5:38 p.m.
After November 1, the park runs on Saturdays
Once the clocks change, the most dependable fixed date near the park is the Peña Adobe Historical Society's monthly opening. The Society says the historic adobe at the adjacent Peña Adobe Park is open on the first Saturday of each month from February through December. This year those Saturdays are Nov. 7 and Dec. 5. Neither the Society's events page nor its Eventbrite organizer page lists a named program for those dates yet.
The Society's most recent special event shows how these Saturdays can look. Its early Halloween program on Oct. 3 featured The Pet Shoppe, NorCal Bats founder Corky Quirk, a Rush Ranch and Solano Land Trust docent, and the Vacaville Jammers, with free admission.
Vacaville's Neighborhood Santa runs Dec. 14 and 16 from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. It's free and needs no registration. The city still lists its park stops as "coming soon," so neither Lagoon Valley Park nor Peña Adobe is confirmed as a stop. Those times also run well past the park's mid-December cutoff, so any stop there would need its own arrangement.
The pass math changes with the season
Parking at Lagoon Valley Park costs $5 for a day pass or $70 for an annual pass. Visitors 65 and older can buy a senior annual pass for $35, and vehicles with a disabled veteran plate park free. The annual pass covers its cost after 14 paid visits. The senior pass covers its cost after seven.
A few details on the city's page matter more than the prices:
- Each annual pass covers one vehicle and is checked by license plate. The city says passes are valid from the date of purchase.
- You can buy one at a park pay station or at Three Oaks Community Center, 1100 Alamo Drive.
- Pay stations are at the lot near the park entrance and the lot near the dog park. They take cards with a 3% convenience fee, or exact-change cash. They don't take coins.
- ParkMobile works too, under Zone 2789.
- Disabled veterans without a DV plate can show proof of status at Three Oaks Community Center to get a free parking pass.
- People who walk, bike or ride a horse in don't need a permit.
The city's page doesn't say how long an annual pass lasts once it's active, so call the number the page lists, (707) 469-4020, before you buy one going into the short-day months.
The last item on that list matters to people who live nearby. A walk-in visit costs nothing at any time of year. Only drivers pay the parking fee.
Dogs, and the lot you park in
The city's fenced off-leash enclosure has 30,000 square feet for large dogs and 10,000 for small dogs. Its listed address is 4627 Peña Adobe Road at the I-80 Peña Adobe exit. Dogs have to stay leashed everywhere else in the park. The trail rules also ask visitors to close gates behind them because cattle graze on the land. The dog-park lot has its own pay station, so you can park and pay there without going through the main entrance lot.
Busy days on Lagoon Valley Road
Early September showed what a big event day looks like here. On Sept. 5, The Reporter covered the Lagoon Valley Classic, a cross-country meet with more than 1,500 student-athletes from 65 schools, thousands of fans, vendors and a marching band. Instructions for the meet warned that traffic on Lagoon Valley Road usually backs up and reminded attendees of the $5 entry charge. No similar meet is on the remaining 2026 calendar we reviewed.
The new park on Mount Royal Road
Lagoon Valley Park isn't the only park in the area anymore. On Sept. 24, The Reporter announced that the Lagoon Valley master-planned community would celebrate the opening of its new Community Park at a Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 200 Mount Royal Road. The event included a ribbon-cutting with city leaders, model-home tours, live music and a preview of new pickleball courts. The Peña Adobe Historical Society's listing named Mayor John Carli, Councilmembers Sarah Chapman and Roy Stockton, and City Manager Savita Chaudhary as ribbon-cutting speakers. The Daily Republic also ran an announcement before the event.
Published details on the new park stop there. The coverage we found was all written before the event. It doesn't say who owns or maintains the Community Park, what its hours are, how many pickleball courts it has, or whether the courts are open for regular play after the preview. The developer's own FAQ says Village 1 has mostly public streets and Villages 2 and 3 will be private and gated. It doesn't say which village the Community Park is in. Until the city or the community posts rules, assume the City's sunrise-to-sunset hours apply only to Lagoon Valley Park on Peña Adobe Road.
For more about the master plan, our Lagoon Valley neighborhood page covers the community, and our earlier post on what CFD 13 pays for explains the phased amenity build-out.
